The Chinese government intends to produce millions of robots in order to address the issue of elderly care and the shortage of medical and social professionals, Sixth Tone reports.
According to Chinese national requirements, each nursing home should have one caregiver for every four residents. However, just 320 thousand personnel are now serving the 8.1 million nursing home residents.
It is expected that new technology developed in China could assist in the resolution of this challenging predicament. Chinese IT corporations have already begun to develop artificial intelligence-powered robots to assist the caregivers. Robots that follow the elderly will be able to sing, speak, assist in rehabilitation, and display movies.
In addition, the Chinese government is promoting the use of smart technologies among the elderly. Watches that monitor your health and remind you to take your prescription are examples, as are smart tablets that can be used to call doctors, check weather forecasts, and play games.
Analysts predict that China will surpass the social technology sector over the next decade as the government raises financing, develops new products, and alters consumer patterns.
