Vsevolod Knyazev, the chairman of Ukraine's Supreme Court, was discovered taking an almost $3mn bribe, "Ukrainskaya Pravda" reports.
Sergei Leshchenko, an assistant to the director of Ukraine's presidential office, corroborated this information, stating that the bribe value was $2.7mn.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office have announced the finding of "major corruption" within Ukraine's Supreme Court, notably including an illegal reward system for the court's leadership and justices. However, no other information has been revealed, other than a snapshot of dollar notes strewn over a sofa.
According to "Strana" sources, Knyazev accepted the bribe from Konstantin Zhivago, a millionaire, and ex-deputy of Verkhovna Rada. The Ukrainian government is presently reviewing Zhevago's "Finance and Credit" bank, which it controls, and is pursuing the extradition of the entrepreneur, who is presently in France.
A total of 18 Supreme Court of Ukraine justices are now under investigation.
