Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are working to create a joint trading house, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reports.
This was announced at a government meeting.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov spoke of "the need to intensify foreign trade relations and greatly expand mutually beneficial cooperation with neighboring states.
The 1,650-km border with Uzbekistan is the longest for Turkmenistan.
Deputy Prime Minister Batyr Atdaev reported on the progress of construction of the first stage of the border trade zone on the joint border with Uzbekistan.
The ceremony of the launching of the Shavat-Dashoguz border trade zone was held in October 2022 during the visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Turkmenistan. A similar project in the direction of Lebap-Bukhara (Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan) is under study.
Last year, trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan grew to nearly $1bn, five times more than in 2017.
