The U.S. has denied visas to Russian media workers who will accompany Russian FM Sergey Lavrov on his New York trip, press secretary of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova informs.
Zakharova announced Lavrov's address at the airport before the departure of the Russian delegation to the USA. The minister reportedly said that the American side "acted cowardly, stupidly and showed the value of their oaths to protect freedom of speech."
"You can be sure about one thing: we will not forget it, we will not forgive it," Lavrov said referring to Izvestia and other media workers who were not issued US visas.
A Russian diplomatic source told Russian state media that the treatment of American journalists would be "the same," adding that "there should be no doubt that American journalists will experience all the inconvenience."
According to reports, visas were not issued to some members of the Russian delegation,in addition to journalists. Lavrov allegedly was not given a visa for a long time too.
Russia chairs the United Nations Security Council in April. This was opposed by Ukraine and the EU. Sergey Lavrov is set to participate in the meetings of the Security Council on April 24 and 25 as part of his visit to the USA.
