The Russian Football Union made a statement after the refusal of the Russian team to participate in the championship of the Football Association of Central Asia.
“The Union has decided not to participate in the Central Asian Football Association Cup. We are grateful to the organizers of the tournament for the invitation and continue to cooperate with the Central Asian football federations in a wide range of areas.
The decision was made after an internal discussion that included the coaching staff of the national team. Due to the timing of the tournament, coinciding with domestic competitions, including the superfinal of the Cup of the Russian Federation.
Participation in the Cup of the Central Asian Football Association was considered one of the options for the games of the national team in June.
