Australia is following the lead of other Western countries and banning the popular TikTok apps on government devices, The Guardian reports.

Attorney General Mark has reportedly mandated the prohibition of the app on government-issued devices across state departments and agencies.
“TikTok poses significant security and privacy risks to non-corporate Commonwealth entities arising from an extensive collection of user data and exposure to extrajudicial directions from a foreign government that conflicts with Australian law,” said the official statement.
Department of Home Affairs evaluated the potential risks and security of all social media platforms in a report for the government in March.
TikTok officials reportedly were not warned of the ban in advance and released a statement displaying "disappointment" over the news and called the ban based on "politics, not facts."
“Our millions of Australian users deserve a government which makes decisions based upon facts and who treats all businesses fairly, regardless of country of origin.”
