Uzbektelecom intends to increase mobile internet speed and introduce 5G technology in March, the company reported on March 10.
As per the report, the country's largest telecommunications operator plans to upgrade over 3,000 existing base stations and install additional 2,000 stations. As a result, preliminary owners of flagship smartphones, including the iPhone, will have an opportunity to benefit from 5G wireless technology. Uztelecom will be Uzbekistan's first operator to provide that service to users.
In December 2022, Uzbekistan's Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, said that the Central Asian republic has registered over 31mn Internet users and 29.5mn Mobile Internet users. In addition, the Minister stressed that the total bandwidth of the international Internet network had been increased by 2.6 times to 3,200 Gbit/s.
