Over 11,500 people were prosecuted for defamation in 2018-2022; reportedly, the list includes 28 persons pledged guilty of libel on mass media or the Internet.
The country's Ministry of Justice reminds citizens that defamation and insults are prohibited by current legislation. In particular, actions affecting the rights and freedoms of citizens, namely defamation, insult, disclosure of personal secrets, illegal dissemination of personal information, and dissemination of knowingly false information, are subject to administrative or criminal liability.
Under civil law, citizens have the right to demand the retraction of inaccurate information and moral damage compensation.
