The number of crimes committed in Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent in 2022 declined by 10.8% compared to 2021, the Main Department of Tashkent Internal Affairs reported on February 20.
In particular, homicide cases declined by 18%, grievous bodily harm by 23.6%, burglary – by 25.4%, and robbery – by 35%. Besides, no crimes were committed in 157 neighborhoods of the Uzbek capital.
However, the number of cybercrimes committed in 2020 amounted to 106, and in 2021 – 2,281, and surged almost twofold in 2022 and reached 4,332. Of these, 2,747 crimes in the IT sector were related to cyber theft, 625 – cyber fraud, and 874 – drug-related crimes were committed using IT.
