Presidents of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Sadyr Japarov, held a press briefing, the press service of Uzbekistan's President reported on January 27.
‘It is symbolic that our state visit is held in the year of the 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic ties between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan,’ President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
It was emphasized that the Treaty on Separate Sections of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz State Border marked a historic event in bilateral relations. Another essential document adopted following the negotiations was the Declaration on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking the advent of a new stage of multifaceted cooperation in the interests of two countries and peoples, the President stressed.
The bilateral trade turnover has seen a sevenfold increase in recent years, reaching $1.3bn. The two governments aim to bring the trade turnover up to $2bn, including through active import substitution and the creation of shopping centers.
Among the key cooperation projects is the launch of automobiles, building materials, textiles and yarn production, electrical products, and electronic meters.
The parties are interested in implementing major infrastructure projects in energy and mining, including the coal industry, with the participation of enterprises and investors of the two countries.
To organize this work, the Uzbek-Kyrgyz Development Fund will be expanded systematically. In addition, a comprehensive Strategic Trade and Economic Partnership Programme for 2023-2025 and an Agreement on developing priority industrial areas will be adopted.
Besides, the parties agreed to jointly grow and supply agricultural products taking into account the shared demand.
Another strategic direction is the development of transport communications.
During the talks, the leaders agreed to intensify efforts to build the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.
The talks focused on the intensification of interregional ties. Regular meetings of the Council of Heads of Border Regions will deepen them.
Particular attention was drawn to strengthening cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian spheres.
It was noted that the Uzbek Music and Drama Theatre, named after Babur, the reconstruction of which is being completed in the city of Osh, will serve as a bright symbol of friendship between the two fraternal nations.
