The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan has approved the regulation "On the procedure for establishing systematic control and taking necessary measures to prevent unjustified increases in the prices of basic types of food and necessary products during the period of sharp fluctuations".
According to the regulation, an analysis will be conducted by the authorized body in cases of sudden price fluctuations or market agitation to avoid food hoarding and panic buying. The Cabinet of Ministers may intervene and set prices for a period of up to 6 months.
In order to monitor the dynamics of changes in the prices of staple goods, the government may:
- have information on daily prices in markets, shopping complexes, retail chains, and stock exchanges;
- require statistics and information of customs authorities (information, bulletins, etc.);
- spread the news on social networks;
- conduct monitoring by collecting data from other sources not prohibited by legislation.
The list of basic foods:
- Wheat and flour;
- Bread;
- beef;
- Poultry meat;
- Eggs;
- Cottonseed oil;
- Sunflower oil;
- Rice;
- Sugar;
- Milk (packaged).
