Omicron subvariant of coronavirus, BA.5 has become a dominant strain in Uzbekistan, the republic’s Ministry of Health has reported. Its incubation period lasts up to three days and symptoms include sore throat, severe head and muscle pain, conjunctivitis, tonsillitis, and otitis.
The number of coronavirus patients in Uzbekistan has increased significantly since early November due to cold weather that forces many people to stay indoors, the governmental department says. The increase in the number of infection cases results in new highly transmissible mutations of coronavirus.
Medical samples were taken from 27 patients hospitalized at Zangiata Infectious Hospital. The results disclosed that 27 patients were diagnosed with a BA.5 subvariant of the omicron strain.
