After the high-level negotiations at the Élysée Palace, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and French President Emmanuel Macron visited the Louvre Museum in Paris with their wives. This is reported by the press service of the president.
"The splendours of the oases of Uzbekistan. At the Crossroads of the Caravan Routes" dedicated to the rich cultural heritage of the Uzbek people was organized in accordance with the agreements reached during the visit of the president to France in October 2018. At that time, the head of state noted the need to organize exhibitions in cooperation with the museums of Uzbekistan and France, and to expand scientific and cultural relations between the countries culminating in a signing memorandum between the Culture and Art Development Fund of Uzbekistan and the Louvre Museum.
Several joint expeditions between Uzbekistan and France were organized and many archaeological finds were discovered in the past three years. In addition, Louvre restorers and specialists from Uzbekistan carried out large-scale restoration activities consisting of several stages.
As a result of these works, a large exhibition space consisting of five sections arranged in chronological order was created in the Richelieu Hall and the Islam section of the Louvre.
These are:
• "The Age of Oasis States and Kingdoms: Communication of Cultures on the Silk Road";
• "The Middle Ages and the flourishing of art";
• "Spread of Islam in Central Asia, Renaissance in culture and science";
• "From Ibn Sina to Genghis Khan";
• "Age of Great Empires: Timurids and Shaibanis".
The exhibition covering more than 1,500 years of Uzbekistan's history includes 138 unique objects from 16 museums of the country, including 70 exhibits specially restored for the exhibition. Also, 31 items from major museums in France, Great Britain and the USA are displayed.
The state leaders of Uzbekistan and France were the first guests of the exhibition, a mural from the red room in Varakhsha, a carved panel from Kafirkala, pages of the Katta Langar Koran, double doors from Amir Temur's mausoleum, the mural painting of ambassadors in Afrosiab and other artefacts.
The heads of state noted that the exhibition was organized at a high level and created a unique atmosphere, and expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the preparation of this event, which holds an important place in the cultural life of the two countries.
The exhibition should serve to further strengthen the long-standing historical ties, friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of Uzbekistan and France as well as the whole of Europe and Central Asia. The exhibition will last until March 6, 2023.
