More than 3,000 rare and unique cultural treasures from 14 museums in Uzbekistan were stolen. This was reported by the press service of the Senate.
Uzbekistan's 48 state museums and their 73 branches store nearly 2.5 million museum objects and collections. 6 non-governmental museums have a total of about 25,000 museum objects and collections. The number of museum objects and museum collections included in the National Museum Fund is 1.3 million.
According to the regulations approved by the government, the procedures for accounting and storage of museum objects and museum collections included in the national museum fund are defined. However, there are no clear procedures for accounting and storage of about 1.2 million museum objects and collections that are not included in the National Museum Fund.
Such problems and shortcomings lead to the theft or replacement of many unique exhibits from museums. In particular, more than 3,000 rare and rare cultural treasures from 14 museums across the republic were looted. In general, the amount of damage caused to cultural heritage objects in 30 years exceeded 4 trillion soums.
