Amidst a growing public discontent related to the sharp increase in the rent of school texts and exercise books, the Uzbek President instructed the Cabinet and the Ministry of Public Education to speed up the free rental of school textbooks and exercise books.
In 2022, the Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan tried to explain the school textbooks rent hike (108%), by soaring production expenses that sparked scathing comments from Rasul Kusherbayev, a deputy of the Legislative Chamber, saying that renting books for money is against the constitution.
