On August 8, Sardor Umrzakov, the head of the President’s Administration, convened an extraordinary meeting on the reckless destruction of trees in Tashkent that sparked public outrage. The responsible officials were accused of malpractice and were heavily criticized, the Uzbek President’s press service reports.
Ultimately, Shavkat Mavlanov, the mayor, and Izzatilla Bozorov, the prosecutor, of the Chilonzor district of Tashkent city both got sacked from their positions by the president's order.
Also, capital mayor Jakhongir Ortiqkhojayev and prosecutor Ulugbek Kasimov were severely reprimanded for their irresponsibility.
