Uzbekistan is considered one of the world's largest importers of flour, and this year the country is expected to buy less wheat flour than usual, World-Grain.com reports.
The International Grains Council (IGC) has predicted that this year's global flour trade will be 14.3 million tons.
This is slightly more than the 14.2 million tons sold in 2021-2022 and will be the highest since 2019-2020 when 14.7 million tons were sold.
Uzbekistan, one of the world's largest flour importers, is expected to purchase 50,000 tons of flour less than a year ago due to a larger domestic wheat harvest than usual.
Another major importer, Brazil, is expected to buy 30,000 tons less flour than in the 2021-2022 season.
At the same time, Iraq, the world's largest importer of flour in recent years, is forecast to import 2.7 million tons of flour in 2022-2023.
The forecast for imports from war-torn Afghanistan was slightly lowered to 1.6 million tonnes from 1.8 million tonnes, the same as the total for 2021-2022.
According to the IGC, the world's largest flour exporter Turkey is ready to export a little more than 5 million tons of flour in 2022-2023, which will be the highest figure since the 2018-2019 season.
The export of flour in Kazakhstan is expected to decrease slightly and this year will be 2.2 million tons, which is 50 thousand tons less than in 2021-2022.
