The U.S. is prepared to commence the import of Uzbek melons following the resolution of all technical issues related to their export. This development was confirmed by representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture during discussions with officials from Uzbekistan.
Melon shipments are set to begin once all legal procedures are completed. In addition to melons, Uzbekistan is also exploring the potential for exporting grapes, cherries, and legumes to the U.S. market shortly.
The Uzbek Ministry of Agriculture has arranged for domestic specialists in laboratory research to receive advanced training in the U.S. This initiative includes plans for American counterparts to visit laboratories in the Aral Sea region and the Fergana Valley for knowledge exchange.
From January to July 2024, Uzbekistan exported 23,300 tons of melons valued at nearly $11mn. Key importing countries included Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Russia, with smaller quantities going to Latvia and Germany. Overall, Uzbekistan’s export value for the first 7M24 reached $792.3 mn, reflecting a 17.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023, according to the State Statistics Agency of Uzbekistan.
