Kyrgyz border guards have successfully intercepted attempts to smuggle goods worth approximately $21,800 (KGS1.9 mn), according to the State Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic. The seizures, which took place on January 9 and 10, were reported by the Border Service’s Information and Communications Department.
On January 9, border guards in the Kuruk-Say area of the Leilek district stopped a Mercedes-Benz vehicle. The driver, a 2003-born Kyrgyz citizen identified as Zh. Uulu T., was attempting to smuggle 3 tons of minced chicken and nearly 300 kg of sheep fat into Tajikistan. The driver did not have the necessary documentation for the cargo.
The following day, on January 10, another border operation took place on the Dostuk-Muras highway. In collaboration with the Leilek district police, the border guards stopped a Toyota Corolla. The driver, a 1994-born Kyrgyz citizen named S.R., was attempting to bring eight boxes of electronic cigarettes worth $17,200 (KGS1.5 mn) into Kyrgyzstan from Tajikistan, also without the required legal documentation.
All detained individuals and the confiscated goods have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
