The 3rd Asian Youth Games, originally planned for Tashkent, Uzbekistan, will now be held in Bahrain in 2025.
The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) stated:
“The Olympic Council of Asia announces that the 3rd Asian Youth Games, scheduled to be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, will be held in Bahrain in 2025. The decision was made at a meeting of the organization’s executive committee held today, December 2.”
The competition, intended for athletes aged 14-17 from 43 countries across nine sports, was moved after Uzbekistan’s National Olympic Committee informed the OCA it could not complete the Olympic Village in Tashkent on schedule.
This announcement comes following a September 10 visit to the Olympic Village site by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, where these games were planned to be held.
In 2022, China's CAMC Engineering secured a $289mn contract to construct Uzbekistan's Olympic City, including the main stadium and athlete accommodations, but construction delays have impacted the project.
