Kazakhstan is set to enhance its trade infrastructure with the opening of its third rail crossing to China by 2027, as reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply. This new project features a 272-kilometer railway line, named “Bakhty – Ayagoz,” which aims to bolster logistics capabilities between the two nations.
To support this initiative, the Kazakh government has allocated KZT 577.5bn ($1.2bn) for the construction and development of the railway. The new crossing is expected to alleviate congestion at the existing “Dostyk” and “Altynkol” crossings, significantly improving the efficiency of cargo transport.
The introduction of the Bakhty – Ayagoz rail line will enhance Kazakhstan’s freight capacity by allowing an additional 20mn tons of goods to be transported annually. This development is poised to create new opportunities for bilateral trade, shortening transit times and minimizing delays at border crossings.
Kazakhstan is strategically positioning itself as a key logistics hub for shipments moving between China and Europe. This new route is anticipated to stimulate regional economies and generate job opportunities in border areas. The launch of the crossing in 2027 is set to mark a milestone for both Kazakhstan and China, further strengthening economic ties and facilitating smoother goods movement across Central Asia.
The new Kazakhstan-China rail crossing will streamline transportation, boost trade, and establish a solid foundation for Kazakhstan’s future as a prominent logistics player in the region.
