The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has reported that more than 1 mn doses of the Lumpy Skin Disease vaccine have been administered to livestock in Afghanistan. This vaccination initiative is ongoing in various regions of the country, with plans to supply additional vaccines to livestock owners.
In Kunduz, some livestock owners have requested an expedited vaccination process to protect their animals from potential mortality. Gul Mohammad, a local livestock owner, expressed appreciation for the vaccination initiative but emphasized the need for timely access: "We are very happy that these vaccines are being administered, and the process is still ongoing. These vaccines should also reach us."
Concerns have previously been raised by livestock owners in various provinces about the outbreak of Lumpy Skin Disease. They warned that if the responsible organizations in Kabul do not act promptly, the risk of animal fatalities and potential human transmission of the disease will increase significantly.
