In a recent incident at School No. 188 in Tashkent's Chilonzor district, a teacher reportedly assaulted a student during a Russian language lesson, prompting a response from the Russian government. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, stated that Uzbekistan has been asked to provide an explanation regarding the situation.
Zakharova expressed her "utmost concern" over a video capturing the event, emphasizing that there is no place for enmity, particularly regarding language issues.
"In the friendly relations of strategic partnership and alliance between the two states there is no and cannot be any place for any hostility, especially on linguistic grounds," Zakharova voiced.
She called for a legal assessment of the incident and urged Tashkent to take appropriate measures against the teacher involved.
The incident occurred on September 23, during a lesson in a sixth-grade class. According to reports from the city's pre-school and school education department, a student, identified as E.G., engaged in an argument with the teacher, R.O.. Following the dispute, the teacher allegedly pulled the student by the ear, removed him from his seat, and slapped him on the face. Fortunately, the student did not sustain any injuries, and his health is reported to be fine.
Local reports indicate that the teacher conducted the Russian language class in Uzbek, which led to E.G.'s request for the lesson to be taught in Russian. This demand reportedly escalated into the altercation witnessed in the video that has since circulated online.
E.G.'s parents have since filed a complaint with law enforcement agencies, seeking accountability for the teacher's actions. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
Furthermore, it has been revealed that the teacher, R.O., was on her first day of work at the school and had not yet been officially employed, as he was offered the position with a trial period.
