President Shavkat Mirziyoyev extended his congratulations to the participants of the international conference "Global Dialogue on Multidimensional Poverty" highlighting that Uzbekistan's selection as the host for this prestigious event reflects global recognition of the country's significant reforms aimed at poverty reduction. He also praised the successful efforts made in the past five years to combat poverty at the grassroots level, incorporating advanced international methods tailored to the country's unique context.
First of all, in order to increase the income of the population, we set a priority to help citizens acquire a profession and start their own business. The Institute of Mayor's assistants in the neighborhood provides all-round assistance to the population in this regard. This year alone, large-scale work is being done to train 250,000 unemployed citizens and attract 2 million people to entrepreneurship. Secondly, improving the living conditions of every citizen in New Uzbekistan, increasing the scope and quality of education and medical services has been the main direction of reforms aimed at glorifying human dignity stated President Mirziyoyev.
In 2024, 31.5 trillion soums were allocated from the budget to build kindergartens and schools, expand medical services, improve drinking water, electricity and road infrastructure in neighborhoods. Most importantly, the participation of neighborhoods in the implementation of these projects is expanding through the "Initiative Budget" system.
Thirdly, we strengthened the social protection system and dramatically increased the scope of providing quality services to families in need of state support. For this purpose, the National Social Protection Agency was established and "Inson" social service centers were established in the districts.
As a result, more than 2,300,000 needy families, women, single elderly people and persons with disabilities were covered by guaranteed social protection. This is 4 times more than in 2017 - President Mirziyoyev.
At this point, I would like to draw your attention to one issue: creating all the opportunities for the full realization of the potential of children born in needy families occupies an important place in the policy of our state," said the president. Regardless of their social background, we give priority to the development of all children in our country as mature people in all respects. In particular in recent years, the coverage level of children with preschool education has increased from 27 percent to 74 percent. The child poverty rate has fallen from 22 percent to 14 percent in the last three years. In addition, large-scale work is being carried out on training young people for high-income and modern professions. For example, the "One million programmers" project was implemented, IT centers were established in each district.
"In general, in the last three years, we have managed to improve the living conditions of 3 million people in need of assistance in our country, and reduce the poverty level from 17 percent to 11 percent," the president added.
Moreover, President Mirziyoyev has consistently continued the comprehensive policy of supporting the needy population and noted that it is aimed to reduce the poverty level to 7% in the next three years.
"In order to achieve such high goals, Uzbekistan is interested in consistent continuation of close cooperation with international organizations and foreign countries by mutual exchange of experience, joint implementation of various programs and projects. I hope that dialogue on multidimensional poverty will serve these noble goals, and the practical proposals and recommendations that will be developed at the end of it will be a new step in reducing poverty on a global scale. Taking this opportunity, I wish success to the conference and all its participants," said President Mirziyoyev.
