Uztemiryulkonteyner JSC has announced the successful launch of a new multimodal transportation route connecting India and Uzbekistan. The route facilitates container shipments from Indian ports—Mundra, Nhava Sheva and Chennai through a combination of sea and rail transport.
The process begins with cargo being shipped by sea from Indian ports to Bandar Abbas in Iran. From there, the containers are transferred to Iranian rail platforms and transported to Sarakhs station. At Sarakhs, the containers are reloaded onto Uzbekistan Railways platforms and continue their journey to Uzbekistan via Turkmenistan.
The new route covers a total distance of 2,673 kilometers, with a current transit time of 20 days. However, Uztemiryulkonteyner plans to reduce this period to 15 days in the future. The first freight train, consisting of 20 20-foot containers has successfully completed the route marking a significant step in enhancing trade connectivity between India and Uzbekistan.
Earlier Daryo reported the arrival of the first commercial shipment of U.S. soybean meal in Uzbekistan marking a significant milestone in U.S.-Uzbekistan trade. The pilot initiative which involved three shipments totaling 150 metric tons, highlights a new trade route that combines sea and rail transport, overcoming traditional logistical challenges. The success of this shipment promises to enhance Uzbekistan’s connectivity with global markets and supports future expansions in agricultural trade, including plans for a soy processing plant and increased soybean meal imports.
