Afghanistan expanded its police force to 230,000 personnel, as announced by Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Acting Minister of Interior. This increase is part of the government's ongoing efforts to enhance national security. Haqqani emphasized the improved coordination among security agencies as a key factor in the country's strengthened security framework. The expanded police force now includes representatives from all major ethnic groups within Afghanistan, providing broad national coverage.
The Acting Minister also addressed the regulation of weapon ownership, stating that only individuals with proper permits are authorized to carry firearms. Unauthorized possession of weapons by individuals, including those from security firms and other sectors, will result in legal action.
Military affairs expert Mohammad Mateen Mohammadi highlighted the significance of training and professionalism among security personnel. He noted that the effectiveness of the police force relies not only on its size but also on the proficiency and expertise of its members.
Haqqani linked the ongoing infrastructure projects, including TAPI, CASA-1000, Mes Aynak, railway developments, and mining initiatives, with the overall security of the country. He indicated that these projects contribute to Afghanistan's stability and economic development, thereby supporting a secure environment.
