Afghanistan exports recycled fibres to Germany for the first time, marking a considerable development in the country's industrial sector. A total of 750 tons of recycled fibres, produced from plastic waste, are set to be exported to Germany over several months. These fibres, created in the Herat industrial park, have undergone quality assessment and testing to meet international standards.
The Herat industrial park has previously exported polyester fibres to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Hamidullah Khadem, head of the Herat Chamber of Industries and Mines, noted the improvement in product quality, which has led to an increase in exports. He said: "Today we are witnessing the export of a shipment of fibres abroad. This shipment is a trial to ensure it meets the foreign market's preference, and in the future, exports will be carried out on a larger scale."
In addition to fibres, the Herat Industrial Park exports various other products, including non-alcoholic beverages, medical and hygiene products, marble, aluminium utensils, yarn, and food items. According to the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment, over the past three months, 15,000 tons of domestic products valued at over $43mn have been exported from Herat to other countries.
Officials from the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment report that exports from Herat have increased by more than 50% this year compared to last year. This growth reflects the region's expanding capacity to produce and export high-quality industrial products.
Earlier, Daryo reported that several European countries are contemplating the possibility of reopening their embassies in Afghanistan. Officials in Brussels have begun acknowledging the necessity of establishing diplomatic missions in Afghanistan. The primary motives behind this move include the protection of women's rights and maintaining a strategic presence in the region. Currently, only the EU representative office operates in Afghanistan, while individual European countries shut down their embassies following the Taliban's return to power.
