Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, Akylbek Zhaparov, announced that the country collected KGS 138.5bn (approximately $1.64bn) in tax and insurance contributions in the first half of 2024, surpassing the established target by over KGS 5.2bn (around $61mn).
At a recent meeting of the State Tax Service board, Zhaparov highlighted that, over the past three years, the introduction of various program measures has led to substantial improvements in tax administration, resulting in an average 135% increase in the rate of tax revenue collection.
Zhaparov acknowledged the Tax Service's achievements but also pointed out ongoing challenges, particularly in reducing the shadow economy and enhancing tax administration quality.
He emphasized the success of digital tools in achieving the current results, noting that tax and payment revenues reached KGS 101.2bn ( $1.19bn), exceeding the planned KGS 100.9bn (around $1.19bn). This represents a 120% increase compared to the same period last year.
The chairman also highlighted the substantial growth in cash register usage, with the number of devices now exceeding 100,000—six times the number from three years ago.
