In the first half of 2024, a notable number of Uzbek citizens ventured abroad for tourism and educational purposes, according to a data from the Statistics Agency. A total of 2.7mn Uzbeks traveled internationally for tourism, marking an increase of 701.9 thousand, or 34.6%, compared to the same period in 2023.
Neighboring Kyrgyzstan emerged as the most popular destination, with 1.25mn Uzbek visitors—a 50% increase from the previous year. Tajikistan followed, attracting 560.6 thousand Uzbeks, an increase of 7.7%. Kazakhstan saw 420 thousand Uzbek tourists, representing a nearly 25% rise from the previous year.
Russia welcomed approximately 122 thousand Uzbek tourists, a 30% increase. Saudi Arabia experienced a threefold increase in visitors from Uzbekistan, reaching 104.6 thousand. Turkey and Egypt also saw significant rises in Uzbek tourists, with 91.8 thousand (+21.3%) and 17.6 thousand (+44.3%) visitors respectively. South Korea entered the top 10 destinations with 10 thousand Uzbek tourists. However, the UAE and Kuwait saw a decline in Uzbek visitors, with numbers falling to 62.6 thousand (-2.9%) and 16.7 thousand (-19.7%) respectively.
In addition to tourism, 19.5 thousand Uzbek citizens traveled abroad for educational purposes in the first half of 2024. Over half of these students, approximately 10.1 thousand, chose Tajikistan for their studies. The Russian Federation followed with 2.9 thousand Uzbek students, while Kyrgyzstan attracted 2 thousand. Turkey, South Korea, and Kazakhstan were also popular educational destinations, with 1 thousand, 948, and 764 students respectively. The UK, China, and Germany rounded out the list, hosting 363, 320, and 190 Uzbek students each.
