The Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights has initiated a case against Anglesey Food, the operator of the Korzinka supermarket chain. This action follows concerns about potentially misleading advertising practices.
The Committee's investigation highlighted that Korzinka's advertisements included phrases such as "The cheapest price for daily purchases," "The cheapest price is in Korzinka," and "Come to the most productive one!" These claims were found to potentially mislead consumers about the pricing of products at Korzinka.
Upon examining the promotional materials, it was revealed that a catalog of daily necessity products was featured as part of the campaign. The prices in this catalog were compared based on monitoring results of similar products in other supermarket chains and farmers' markets. However, the comparison was made using the total price of the basket rather than individual product prices.
It was found that the prices of products advertised as having the "lowest price" were comparable to those in other supermarkets and farmers' markets. This led to the conclusion that such advertising could mislead or confuse consumers.
"Advertising in this form can be said to be misleading or confusing to the users of the advertisement," stated the Committee's report.
The case was initiated due to violations of Article 16 of the law on advertising and Article 6 of the law on protection of consumer rights.
Earlier, measures were taken against Navoiyazot for earning income through artificial price hikes. Similarly, a case was initiated against MAXAM-Chirchiq for unjustifiably raising prices in the mineral fertilizer market.
