Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are seeking European funding for the construction of the Kyzylorda-Uchkuduk railway line, a project set to bolster economic integration and trade relations in Central Asia.
On June 13, Mamanbiy Omarov, First Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, held a meeting with a delegation from the European Commission for International Cooperation. The discussion focused on fostering cooperation under the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor coordination platform.
Omarov highlighted the rapid reforms and advancements in Uzbekistan's transport and logistics sectors. He emphasized Uzbekistan's readiness to participate actively in European Union initiatives aimed at developing a stable, reliable, and secure transport infrastructure. Special importance is being placed on projects that enhance regional transport corridors, with the Kyzylorda-Uchkuduk railway line emerging as a priority.
The proposed railway line is anticipated to bring substantial economic benefits to both Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. It is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening regional integration, enhancing trade relations, and facilitating smoother transit across Central Asia.
To advance this project, the Ministries of Transport from both countries have submitted proposals to key international financial organizations, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), seeking funding for the technical and economic foundation of the railway line.
Representatives from the European Commission acknowledged the importance of the coordination platform established for the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor. They noted that this platform is a crucial step towards bridging Central Asia and Europe, fostering closer economic ties and cooperation.
