China plans to launch a tourist train service to the Uzbek cities of Tashkent and Samarkand, as per to a report from the press service of Uzbekistan Railways.
On June 7, Khikmatulla Rakhmetov, the first deputy chairman of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari, met with a delegation from the Xi'an Municipal Committee of China to discuss the development of railway and logistics connections. The discussions focused on expanding rail connectivity to facilitate economic and tourism growth.
In 2023, a total of 675 route train movements were conducted from the port of Xi'an to Central Asian countries, with Uzbekistan accounting for half of these movements. This highlights the role Uzbekistan plays in the region's logistics network.
During the meeting, representatives from Uzbekistan Railways proposed that the Chinese province consider a new transport route from Xi'an to Uzbekistan via Kashgar, Irkeshtom, Osh, and Andijan.
In addition to cargo transportation, the Chinese side announced plans to launch a tourist train service on the route from Xi'an to Almaty and the cities of Uzbekistan. This tourist train is expected to provide a direct route for travelers between China and Uzbekistan, enabling them to explore the cultural and historical heritage of Tashkent and Samarkand.
