Agricultural trade between Uzbekistan and Türkiye saw growth in 2023, with the mutual trade turnover reaching $144.8mn. Both nations are now actively working to elevate this figure to $200mn by the end of the year.
An official visit by Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Türkiye has catalyzed a new level of bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including agriculture.
This visit marks a step in strengthening ties not only in culture, tourism, and water management but also in enhancing agricultural collaboration between the two nations.
As part of the official activities, Uzbekistan's Minister of Agriculture, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, engaged in discussions with Türkiye’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ibrahim Yumakli.
Minister Abdurakhmonov emphasized the critical importance of the joint projects between Uzbekistan and Türkiye, especially in the context of global challenges such as geopolitical tensions, climate change, and food security.
He stressed the effectiveness of the meetings and the promising future of the agreements reached. He also acknowledged the valuable assistance from Turkish experts in developing Uzbekistan's agricultural insurance platform.
Minister Yumakli expressed satisfaction with the agreements and cooperation established, affirming that the agricultural sector ties between the two countries, which share deep historical connections, will continue to grow stronger. He highlighted several areas of cooperation and investment, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing agricultural practices and technologies.
Several agreements were formed with Turkish partners, including:
- Scientific Cooperation: Establishment of a laboratory for the safety of agricultural and food products, and breeding of F1 hybrid generations of sunflower, corn, and peanut varieties using Turkish genetic selections.
- Greenhouse Projects: Development of cooperative greenhouses utilizing geothermal water.
- Horticulture Development: Creation of a modern nursery and in-vitro laboratory at the Horticulture, Viticulture, and Winemaking Research Institute named after M. Mirzaev.
- Intensive Parks: Implementation of intensive agricultural parks in Namangan.
- Seed Production Complex: Agreements on constructing a modern seed production complex in Andijan for processing seed cotton and grains.
