Dushanbe will host the High-level Central Asian Forum on ‘Water and Climate Change,’ on June 10, organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the European Union, and the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan. This event is part of the 3rd High-level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028.”
The Forum is a collaborative effort under the ‘Climate Change and Resilience in Central Asia’ project, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP. This initiative supports national goals related to the environment, climate change, and disaster risk management, in line with the Paris Agreement and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.
The 3rd High-level Forum on ‘Water and Climate Change’ in Dushanbe will focus on improving water and climate dialogue among Central Asian states. Topics will include implementing risk-informed policies, developing national adaptation plans, disaster risk reduction measures, and enhancing regional cooperation on water resource management and environmental protection.
The Forum will concentrate on developing and implementing policies that consider climate risks to enhance resilience and sustainability. Participants will share experiences and strategies to formulate effective national plans for adapting to climate change. Discussions will focus on measures to reduce the risk of climate-related disasters through regional cooperation and shared practices. Enhancing dialogue and cooperation on the sustainable management of water resources is crucial for the region's ecological and economic stability. Additionally, strategies for protecting and conserving the environment in the face of climate change will be discussed to ensure sustainable development for future generations.
The outcomes of the Forum will be presented at the closing session of the Third Dushanbe Water Action Decade Conference ‘Water for Sustainable Development.’ These findings and proposed solutions will contribute to the broader goals of the Conference and support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) Global Acceleration Framework.
