Uzbekistan and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) explored joint initiatives outlined in the 2024-2026 Cooperation Program, which aims to allocate $2.5bn across 12 projects focused on green energy, water supply, highway reconstruction, and infrastructure development.
Parties have engaged in discussions regarding the advancement of international transport corridors, specifically focusing on the construction of a railway line connecting China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
A delegation from Uzbekistan, headed by Transport Minister Ilkhom Mahkamov, convened with senior officials of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in China to delve into this pivotal issue.
Vice-President of the AIIB, Konstantin Limitovskiy, emphasized the bank's prioritization of cooperation in executing international transport corridor projects.
Additionally, the parties deliberated on ongoing projects supported by the AIIB in promising areas of collaboration. This includes mobilizing financial resources for the electrification of the Bukhara-Myskin-Urgench-Khiva railway line, as well as the reconstruction of key highways traversing the Bukhara region. Furthermore, discussions encompassed the enhancement of public transport in various regions through the acquisition of buses.
The proposed China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway line holds strategic importance, promising to bolster regional connectivity and facilitate efficient transportation of goods and passengers between the involved nations. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to strengthen economic ties and foster sustainable development across Central Asia.
