IsDB president launches trilateral visit to Central Asia for economic collaboration

The President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), Muhammad Al Jasser, is set to embark on a trilateral visit to the Central Asian nations of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan from June 5 to June 13, 2024. The objective of this visit is to fortify economic ties, explore transformative developmental projects, and enhance multifaceted cooperation across various strategic sectors.

Al Jasser's first stop will be the Kyrgyz Republic, from June 5 to 8. He will visit several flagship projects funded by the IsDB and hold high-level bilateral talks with Sadyr Japarov, President of the Kyrgyz Republic, and other senior government officials.

The discussions will focus on enhancing financial cooperation, forging new partnerships, and unlocking innovative opportunities in crucial sectors such as energy, healthcare, and information and communication technologies (ICT). Additionally, the IsDB will actively engage in initiatives aimed at advancing vaccine manufacturing and cutting-edge technology development within the nation.

On June 8, Al Jasser is said to travel to Kazakhstan, where he will engage in bilateral talks with senior members of the government. This segment of the visit aims to enhance collaboration and mutual prosperity between the IsDB and Kazakhstan, emphasizing shared goals and potential new ventures.

The final leg of the president’s visit, from June 9 to 13, will be in Tajikistan. Al Jasser will attend the National Development Council Meeting, chaired by President Emomali Rahmon. He will deliver opening remarks and engage in discussions on developmental initiatives.

Furthermore, he will hold bilateral talks with President Rahmon and other senior government officials, fostering stronger ties and exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation.

A highlight of the Tajikistan visit will be Al Jasser’s participation in the Third International High-Level Conference on the International Decade of Action - "Water for Sustainable Development," 2018-2028, where he will deliver a statement highlighting the IsDB’s commitment to sustainable water resource management initiatives.

The visit will culminate in the signing of the Financing Agreements for the Construction of Lot 4 of the Rogun HPP Project. The delegation will also visit the Rogun HPP project site and other IsDB-financed projects, including a school in Dushanbe and the transformative Dangara Valley Irrigation Project, interacting with beneficiaries and witnessing the tangible impact of these initiatives.

The trilateral visit to Central Asian Countries aims to reinforce longstanding partnerships with the three countries, promote regional cooperation, and unlock new frontiers of collaboration in key sectors that will shape the future of these nations and their people.

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) is a multilateral development bank dedicated to fostering socio-economic progress in its member countries and Muslim communities worldwide. Guided by the principles of Islamic finance, the IsDB provides project financing, technical expertise, and capacity-building initiatives to support sustainable development and improve the quality of life for people in its member countries. With 57 member countries, the IsDB is committed to addressing development challenges and promoting collaboration to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
