Uzbekistan and China are considering increasing the number of direct flights between the two countries to 100 per week. The Civil Aviation Administration of China convened a meeting to discuss this proposal and to explore expanding the current flight operations and improving air travel connectivity between the two nations.
The meeting, attended by Miao Xin, deputy director of the International Cooperation Department of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, and representatives from the Uzbekistan Embassy, focused on the potential for enhancing air travel between the two nations. The Chinese delegation was briefed on Uzbekistan's recent reforms across various sectors, as well as the favourable conditions established for foreign investors and the country's tourism sector.
The discussions also covered cultural exchanges and the increase in foreign tourists visiting both countries. Miao Xin praised the positive momentum in Chinese-Uzbek relations and expressed optimism for further growth across all sectors.
Currently, there are 18 flights per week between Uzbekistan and China, a result of efforts and agreements made during high-level dialogues. Uzbekistan Airways, China Southern Airlines, and Loong Air operate these flights, with 7 flights between Beijing and Tashkent, 5 between Urumqi and Tashkent, and 3 between Xian, Chengdu, and Tashkent per week.
The role of Uzbekistan as a transit hub in Central Asia was also discussed, highlighting its strategic importance in regional connectivity.
