President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has received Michal Mlynar, Acting Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.
The head of state suggested that a group of experts from UN-Habitat should visit Turkmenistan to develop a project document. Berdimuhamedov noted that the issue related to the opening of a UN-Habitat Representative Office in Turkmenistan is one of the priorities.
Experts say the establishment of the UN agency's office in Ashgabat will help develop inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities in Turkmenistan.
UN Habitat, which promotes adequate shelter for all and sustainable urban development, was established in 1978.
It works to promote good urban governance - the rapid and effective response to urban problems by local authorities in cooperation with civil society.
