In the ongoing Russian presidential election, initial data from the Central Election Commission (CEC) reveals that President Vladimir Putin has secured a commanding lead, capturing 87.97% of the votes after the processing of 24.4% of the electoral protocols, RIA Novosti reports on March 17.
In the recent Russian presidential election, Vladimir Putin secured a record-breaking 87.97% of the votes, marking the highest result in modern Russian history. This surpasses his previous victories, with 76.69% in 2018, 63.6% in 2012, and Dmitry Medvedev's 70.28% in 2008. Putin also won in 2004 with 71.31% and in 2000 with 52.9%.
Nikolay Kharitonov gains 3.8% of the votes, Leonid Slutsky - 2.96%, Vladislav Davankov - 3.73% of the votes.
As of 20:37 Moscow time, the turnout in the Russian presidential elections stood at 74.22%.
