In 2022, Uzbekistan ranked 106th out of 193 nations in the Human Development Index (HDI), a slight decline from the previous year. The average life expectancy in Uzbekistan is 71 years, while the average person spends 12 years in education. The gross income per capita is estimated at $8,000. Life expectancy, education, and gross national income at purchasing power parity per capita are the three main criteria used by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which creates the HDI, to assess nations.
Kazakhstan is first in Central Asia, ranking 67th out of the region's nations. Tajikistan is ranked 126th, Kyrgyzstan is ranked 117th, and Turkmenistan is ranked 94th. Despite the varying rankings, these countries collectively represent the diverse development trajectories within Central Asia.
The HDI rankings demonstrate that Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland have the highest levels of human development worldwide. On the other hand, Somalia, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic are at the bottom of the list.
Apart from the Human Development Index (HDI), Uzbekistan is ranked 148th out of 167 states on the Democracy Index as of 2023. Uzbekistan had the same score of 2.12 out of ten on this index as it did in 2022, which was created by the British research group The Economist Intelligence Unit.
