Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed cooperation in the energy sector during a meeting with the Secretary General of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Helga Maria Schmid, local television Altyn Asyr reports.
"The head of Turkmenistan spoke about the expediency of carrying out concrete work within the OSCE to bring to the world market and transit of energy carriers, including political, financial and environmental aspects."
Turkmenistan became a member of the OSCE in 1992. A number of important international forums have been held in Ashgabat under the auspices of the OSCE and the UN, including on energy security.
The Caspian country has the world's fourth largest natural gas reserves and exports this type of fuel to the markets of China, Russia and Uzbekistan. Projects under discussion include gas pipelines to Europe (via the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan and Turkey) and to India (via Afghanistan and Pakistan).
European countries see Turkmenistan as a promising supplier of natural gas, former OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier said in 2011.
