An Austrian citizen, who was detained in Afghanistan, has been released from prison with the assistance of Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Etilaatroz reports.
While the identity of the freed individual remains undisclosed, it is confirmed that they are currently residing in Doha, Qatar. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al-Khalifi, Qatar's Deputy Foreign Minister, expressed gratitude to the Taliban for their cooperation in facilitating the release of the Austrian citizen.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria disclosed that their citizen was apprehended by the Taliban in June 2023 during a visit to Afghanistan. Reports from Austrian media outlets at the time indicated that the individual, identified as "Herbert F," was 80 years old and reportedly associated with an extreme right-wing party, which had been outlawed in 1988.

Before his arrest, "Herbert F" garnered attention for his interest in traveling to high-risk regions. Notably, he authored an article titled "Holiday with the Taliban," expressing a favorable perspective on life in Afghanistan.
Earlier, it was reported that in a statement to Afghan National Television, Habibullah Badr, the military deputy of the Taliban prisons department, revealed that approximately 19,000 individuals, including 800 women, are currently incarcerated in Taliban prisons across Afghanistan.
