The Ministry of Energy in Uzbekistan has announced measures to restrict the operation of automobile gas filling compressor stations due to a period of low temperatures and snowfall gripping the country since February 16. This decision comes as a response to the observed decrease in gas pressure in main gas pipelines during the inclement weather conditions, as highlighted by the ministry's press service on February 18.
To mitigate any inconvenience for motorists, they have been advised to supplement their fuel needs with gasoline, with assurances from authorities about the increased supply of gasoline to conventional gas stations. The Ministry of Energy has committed to providing updates regarding the restoration of gas filling stations separately.
This isn't the first instance of such measures being implemented. In December 2023, during a previous period of sharp temperature drops, regional administrations (khokimiyats), took similar steps to address gas supply challenges. On December 8, all regions in Uzbekistan limited the operating hours of methane gas stations to nine hours per day, a move reinforced by Khududgaztaminot on December 12, when the gas supply schedule to stations was reduced to just six hours daily. Subsequently, gas supplies to select stations in five regions were temporarily halted, although services were later resumed.
Earlier Daryo reported that discussions are underway between Uzbekistan and Russia regarding a fresh, extended-term gas agreement, possibly entailing higher supply quantities. Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Oleg Malginov underscored the importance of Russian gas in bolstering Uzbekistan's economy, particularly amid adverse weather conditions encountered in recent times.
