In January of 2024, Uzbekistan secured the 91st position among 144 countries in the global mobile internet speed rankings. This marks a four-place advancement from its December 2023 standing. The average mobile internet download speed in the country was recorded at 26.97 Mbit/s, while the upload speed stood at 11.25 Mbit/s. The average wired internet speed in Uzbekistan was 59.07 Mbit/s, leading to a one-place rise in the ranking to the 89th position.
In the Central Asian region, Kazakhstan led the pack in January with a 69th place in the overall rating. Kyrgyzstan followed in third place (94th globally), and Tajikistan was fourth (140th globally). Data for Turkmenistan remains unavailable.
As of December 2022, the Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, reported that internet service users in Uzbekistan had surged to 31 mn. To cater to this growing demand and develop the international and long-distance telecommunications network, the total bandwidth of the international internet network was amplified by 260% to 3,200 Gbit/s.
In 2022, Uzbekistan was ranked 155th globally in terms of wired internet speed. However, in 2023, the country climbed to the 131st place, marking a significant improvement of 24 points compared to the previous year’s rating. The wired internet speed in Uzbekistan is currently 21.67 Mbit/s.
Starting from March 2023, Uzbekistan has announced plans to increase mobile internet speed and introduce 5G technology nationwide, signalling a promising future for the country’s digital landscape.
