In the ongoing court proceedings concerning the "Doc-1 Max" syrup, which tragically led to the deaths of at least 68 children in Uzbekistan, the victims are seeking billions in compensation. The latest session, held on January 26, 2024, revealed that one of the victims is claiming a staggering UZS 500 bn (approximately $40.5 mn) in compensation for the loss of their child, Daryo correspondent reported.
During the court session, lawyer Muhsinjon Madaminov put forth several requests, with a primary one urging the court to summon insurance officials to provide clarity on the appropriate amount of compensation for the victims.
However, the judge promptly rejected this request, citing the nature of insurance claims.
The court session also unveiled the substantial compensation demands from the victims. Nodirbek Nosirov, a resident of Namangan region, is seeking UZS 500 bn (approximately $40.5 mn) in compensation for the death of his son Mansurbek Nosirov.
In previous hearings, victims had varied compensation demands, with amounts reaching up to UZS 8 bn ($647,423). Notably, Feruz Nuritdinov, the father of 5-year-old Alibek Oktamov, who suffered severe consequences from consuming the syrup, initially expressed a compensation request of UZS 3 bn ($242,783). However, during the recent court session, he changed his stance and increased his compensation demand to UZS 8 bn ($647,423).
Earlier Daryo reported that the Indian defendant and director of Quramax Medical, S.R.P., encountered a setback as the court dismissed a plea seeking a modification of his preventive detention measure. The defense, represented by attorney Davron Ahmadov, sought to replace the imprisonment measure with a non-custodial alternative, citing health concerns and a notable decline in weight.
