Uzbekistan is contemplating the imposition of anti-dumping duties on imported household appliances, as indicated in the minutes of a government commission meeting led by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev on December 25, Gazeta.uz reported.
Government Directive
This directive, outlined in the minutes of the meeting aims to align Uzbekistan's trade practices with international standards based on foreign experience. The proposals are to be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers within the next two months.
Anti-dumping duties serve as additional charges on imported goods that enter the market at prices lower than the domestic prices of the producing country, a practice known as dumping.
Customs Committee's Role
The Customs Committee has been instructed to oversee the application of specific rate methods in calculating customs duties for electrical and household products. This method involves a rate per quantity in addition to the basic percentage rate. For example, the import of window air conditioners/split systems may incur a rate of 30% of the cost, but not less than $50 per unit.
Quality Control Measures
To ensure compliance with regulatory standards, customs authorities are directed to strictly prohibit the free circulation of electrical equipment that does not meet regulatory requirements. This emphasizes the importance of maintaining product quality and safety in the market.
