French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his commitment to eradicating violence against women, a problem he described as a daily occurrence. “We can and must put an end to it, and we will achieve it,” Macron declared on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Macron revealed that French law enforcement agencies recorded 244,000 cases of domestic violence last year, a figure that has doubled over the past five years. To combat this, the French government is implementing measures to support victims, including the creation of a database to track abusers. Additionally, plans are underway to provide compensation for victims of violence.
The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, observed on November 25, is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness about the prevalence of violence against women. Globally, an estimated 736 mn women — almost one in three — have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their lives.
Macron’s commitment to ending violence against women echoes similar sentiments expressed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who recently stated that combating violence against women is a priority of his country’s policy. Erdogan expressed confidence in the newly established Coordinating Council for Combating Violence against Women, which he believes will carry out activities worthy of the centenary of the Republic.
