A video depicting a tourist upgrading his seat from economy class to business class by paying an additional $15 for his originally $10 ticket from "Afrosiyob" was widely circulated on social media. The press service of "Uzbekistan Railways" clarified that this video is outdated, and the individual responsible for this error has been terminated from their position.
"This incident occurred on July 6, 2023, and on July 10 the train's conductor was relieved of their duties. The attendants in the train cars have been instructed to communicate to the crew that such occurrences should not happen again. Currently, a comprehensive inspection of all high-speed "Afrosiyob" electric trains is being conducted by a dedicated task force. Stringent measures have been implemented to prevent the recurrence of similar situations. Please do not propagate outdated information," asked the press service.
In late September, a meeting held in the presence of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed critical issues in the railway sector. During this meeting, it was disclosed that "Uzbekistan Railways" would undergo a transformation into a holding company, along with the objective of divesting non-performing assets held by "Uzbekistan Railways."
