Uzbekistan and Mongolia have agreed to expedite the adoption of agreements on preferential trade and mutual protection of investments, following high-level talks between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh in Ulaanbaatar.
Speaking to the media after the talks, the leaders emphasized their shared commitment to deepening economic and strategic cooperation across multiple sectors.
A key outcome of the visit was the signing of a joint declaration on comprehensive partnership, setting a strategic framework for future cooperation.
“We have identified concrete tasks and outlined practical plans for the coming years,” said Mirziyoyev.
The two sides prioritized economic ties, with a shared goal of multiplying the volume of bilateral trade. The upcoming opening of an Uzbekistan Trading House with an exhibition center in Ulaanbaatar is expected to support this objective.
The successful business forum held on the eve of the visit brought together Uzbek and Mongolian entrepreneurs and resulted in several new agreements. The two presidents pledged to provide continued support for private sector initiatives and create favorable conditions for business cooperation.
They also agreed to develop joint industrial projects in areas where their economies complement each other, including mining, agriculture, animal husbandry, and the light industry — particularly in the processing of wool and leather.
As landlocked nations, Uzbekistan and Mongolia highlighted the importance of transport connectivity. Plans are in place to develop new logistics routes and launch direct flights between Tashkent and Ulaanbaatar this fall, enhancing trade and people-to-people exchanges.
Cultural and educational ties also featured prominently. President Mirziyoyev reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s readiness to allocate university quotas for Mongolian students. Ongoing Days of Uzbek Culture and tourism forums in Ulaanbaatar were highlighted as steps to boost mutual understanding and cooperation.
The leaders agreed to continue collaboration within multilateral platforms such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and announced that a joint roadmap will be adopted to ensure timely and effective implementation of all agreements.
President Mirziyoyev concluded the meeting by inviting President Khurelsukh to make an official visit to Uzbekistan.
