Saida Mirziyoyeva, the assistant to the President of Uzbekistan, has responded to reports regarding the transfer of the Botanical Garden in Tashkent to the balance of the city administration.
"Botanical Garden is not just a recreational area; it is the lungs of Tashkent, where the city breathes every day. It represents our proud history," stated the presidential aide. She emphasized that over the course of more than 70 years, dedicated scientists have cultivated precious trees and plants in this garden, pouring their love and dedication into them.
"In our country, such a sanctuary is nowhere else to be found. Preserving and protecting this piece of nature, and delivering it to our children, is our responsibility. I firmly oppose any commercialization or transfer of the Botanical Garden to commercial management. Not a single centimeter of it should be leased or given to builders or entrepreneurs," said Saida Mirziyoyeva.
Reportedly, the garden was created by scientists and should remain for scientists, serving all Uzbekistan citizens.
"It will remain under the Academy of Sciences," wrote the presidential aide.
Earlier, a draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers "On the activities of recreation areas and improving their management system" was posted on the Project.gov.uz portal. According to the draft, it is proposed to create "Recreation area management authorities" subordinate to the regional administrations to manage cultural and recreation areas. This information raised concerns among the public.
Subsequently, the city administration clarified that the Botanical Garden would not be transferred to its balance.
"The administration recognizes the importance of this scientific institution in preserving the country's ecological balance, the genofond of plants, and its expansion. It will not transfer the garden to recreational management," stated the official press release.
